(1942) French artist

Gérard Bouvier was born in Caen (Normandy) in 1942. As a young boy he was passionate about drawing and painting and by the age of 24 had exhibitions in Cannes and later in Vence with some renowned artists. He moved to Paris and found himself surrounded by artistically minded people. He joined a theatre group and, from 1967 to 1969, directed some medium-lengtht movies and theatre plays. To survive he did all sorts of small jobs… classical way of doing. By the end of 1969 he left for Italy where sculpturing became his main activity. He then left for North America where he developed the idea to create sculptures “for everyone” and not for “a few”. He sought for a material that would give him a unique style and found how to use cutlery. This allowed him to work both in a figurative and abstract style. Without complying with fashions or trends, the world of Bouvier was born. Nowadays, he lives in the Dordogne where he spent the first 6 years farming and raising… a break… a revaluation about his art and probably himself were most certainly beneficial since it is without great torment, unlike other artists, that he works there.
