CESAR
 (1921 -1998) French artist

His father held a bar in Marseille, where César Baldaccini was born in 1921, in the popular district of Belle-de-Mai, in n°71 from the street Loubon. " I am fundamentally an absolute self-taught ", he will say. He works at first at his father's, before attending( the class of the School of Fine Arts of his home town in 1935 then, in 1943, the National School Superior of the Fine arts of Paris in Marcel Gimond's workshop(. He occupies a workshop in a former "bordel" of the " street of the Warmed ", rooms of which, further to the law Marthe Richard, had been attributed to students. From 1947, he works the plaster and the iron.  In 1952, in Provence, he makes his first tries of weld and his firstr culptures in scraps, by using little expensive salvaged materials: his means are always modest then, so due to the lack of money to offer ihimelf some marble, César is going to get back in the discharges of scrap the materials of his first sculptures; tubes, bolts, saw( which become insects, or meet in the powerful curves of the Venus of Villetaneuse. In 1954, he exposes in the gallery Lucien Durand and obtains the prize) collaborator" for an entitled sculpture The fish. In 1956, he participates in the biennial event of Venice; then in Sao PAulo's biennial event and in the Documenta II in 1959. In 1961 he joins the group of the New Realists with Mimmo Rotella, then Saint Phalle's Niki and Gérard Deschamps.
