(1969) French artist

Invader is a French urban artist, born in 1969. Since the late 1990s, he is known for laying small mosaic of characters from Space Invaders and other video games from 1970-1980 on the walls of many cities around the world. But Invader sows mosaics incognito, as the French artist does not wish to be unmasked. The placement of these small figures, often carried out illegally, is what he calls the "invasion". The artist's approach is manifold : the contamination of the visual & public space, meeting between the pixel and the mosaic, and the transposition of a video game in reality. The artist says he hasn't derived from the graffiti movement since it was discovered only after he started his approach. Invader considers its approach as close to the hacker, in the sense that a virus spread illegally in the heart of the system via a huge network of space invaders.
