(1926) French artist

Son of an industrialist, Morellet studied classical side, then Oriental Languages in Paris, before returning to family business. Very quickly, he combines industrial and artistic activities. In 1950, during a visit to Brazil, he discover the work of Max Bill (whom he met in 1954) and move towards abstract art. At the outset, Morellet adopts a basic geometric language which brings to design systems frames, first appeared on the surface of the canvas, then on the wall. The spheres are born-frames of interest between this installation and architecture. he performs several of different sizes, but all based on symmetry and repetition of a module.
