Coming from a conservative family of the Rennes bourgeoisie, Catherine Painvin has never done things by half. Married at the age of 16, she is the mother of three children. In 1970, at the age of 21, she sets up its first case of decorative objects, Carola, and employs 150 people. Five years later, on the night of her tenth wedding anniversary, the finding is clear : her private life is a disaster. With three children under her arm, she decides to take off. Branch Spain, then a hippie commune in the United States where she settled for two years. On her return, she met her second husband, with whom she has two other children. One fine morning in January 1977, an idea forms ... The universe of a pink and blue dedicated to children. "Tartine et Chocolat" is born ! The success is immediate. Her clothes are sold at Galeries Lafayette and Printemps.
1980 is the year of the consecration. The first store out of the ground, rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore in Paris. Catherine Painvin signs her first licensing agreement with Japan and the French media echo this success. She then accumulates accolades : Veuve Clicquot prize in 1985, the award for Best Business Woman of the world by Star Group in 2001 and American Legion d'Honneur in 2002. 1988 is marked in New York, by the launch on 5th Avenue, the first fragrance for children, Ptitsenbon. And four years later, she launches a new line of home furnishings and Everwood. While the clothing Tartine et Chocolat continue to be exported throughout the world. Today, the brand with soft colors is present in 120 countries.
